With the dormant winter behind us (we hope), March not only brings an air of spring with it – It also brings many jobs in the garden. In fact it’s probably the only month of the year when all our services can be used at any one time.
Unless you are a happy retiree who loves to spend all your time in the garden, March really can be a little overwhelming for those who simply do not have the time or energy after working all week, to tackle the many jobs that must be done to keep your garden as your little haven to relax in and enjoy in whatever manner appeals to you.
Now is the time to have a good look at your garden and maybe contact us to assist with any jobs you feel you can’t do.
Here is just a random list of jobs that should be completed certainly by the end of the month.
- Fertilise your flower and vegetable beds to prepare for the growing season ahead.
- Feed trees, shrubs and hedges with a slow-release fertiliser.
- Prune roses now to encourage growth and also give them a special rose feed.
- Prune certain flowering climbers, especially ‘the queen of climbers’, clematis.
- Cut back any rhododendrons that need a new lease of life.
- Put supports in that your climber needs, allowing the plants to grow up through.
(Adding supports afterwards is time consuming job and often looks unattractive) - Move deciduous* trees or shrubs
* those that lose their leaves in autumn. - Jet washing paths before weeds grow and cover them, and to prevent the slabs from cracking
- Cutting back dead foliage from perennials and ornamental grasses.
- Deadheading various flower species, to let foliage die back naturally and on others before new growth appears.
- Jet washing the decking/ fencing and consider if it needs resealing with a paint or preservative treatment.
The above list is by no means a comprehensive list of all the jobs that the month of March brings to gardens.
There are more! Should you be interested in us being able to help you with these tasks, then simply contact us and we will get back to you as soon as possible to offer you a free consultation appointment and give you our quote for the job/s you wish us to undertake on your behalf.
